Handcrafted design and local artisans at Yama Balian
Switching on the lamp subtly transforms the room:
contours soften, the space slows down, and a quiet sense of refuge appears. It’s the kind of light you want for a nighttime tea, a few lines in your journal, a breath before bed, or a short meditation.

In deluxe rooms at Yama Balian, there is a lamp.
It’s warm. Simple. Grounded.
But more importantly, it tells a story.
This lamp was not purchased from a store.
It was designed from scratch and handcrafted in collaboration with local artisans from the island, following the same philosophy that shapes everything at Yama.
Working closely with Balinese artisans is not an aesthetic decision for us—it’s a value. From the very beginning, Yama was created with the intention of honoring craft, time, and local knowledge, rather than relying on mass-produced objects.
Thanks to that artisans of the island —those who make possible the small gestures that shape Yama— we brought this piece to life. And as with many objects that live in our spaces, no two lamps are ever the same.

“I didn’t want a lamp that was just beautiful,”
says Toni Breton, creative director and one of the minds behind Yama.
“I wanted a light that felt honest. Something that belongs to the space, something made slowly, with hands and intention.”
The process took time. Sketches, conversations, adjustments, prototypes. A shared language between design and craftsmanship. This lamp became a quiet expression of what we believe in:
- Creating instead of consuming
- Supporting local artisans and traditional skills
- Designing spaces that feel calm, timeless, and human
At Yama, every object is considered not only for how it looks, but for how it makes people feel when they live with it—especially in a retreat setting, where sensitivity to light, atmosphere, and rest matters deeply.

This lamp is not decoration.
It’s a reflection of our commitment to intentional design, local collaboration, and right living.
When the light turns on at night, it carries that philosophy with it—softly, without asking for attention 🤲🏽
